Robber Attempts Heist With Underwear Over His Head

Pants Disguise: Man Attempts Heist With Underwear Over His Head

Calamitous crime is nothing new but Londoner Tazviona Bhebe took the art to a whole new level as he attempted to rob his local cornershop with only a pair of his own underwear over his head as a disguise.

Bhebe, from Sutton, attempted to rob the Broadway Mini-Market at knifepoint but was denied after the shop assistant, Hari Mahalingham, hit him with an A-frame advertising board, forcing him into a hasty retreat.

Unfortunately for Bhebe, his awful disguise led to him being instantly recognised by Mahalingham.

"I couldn't believe it when he came in wearing this underwear on his head," he said, "It was a pointless disguise and I recognised him right away."

Bhebe was also recognised by passers-by as he fled the shop, running to his home which was only round the corner from the shop.

Appearing in Croydon Crown Court, Bhebe was sentenced to three years in prison for robbery.

A Met Police spokesperson said: "It's fair to say that this man is not a master of disguise."

"But this lack of sophistication should not detract from what was a serious offence. He threatened a shop assistant with a knife and it is important that he has been brought to justice."
