Abu Qatada is wanted in Jordan for his role in a bomb plot

Europe's human rights judges will meet next week to consider whether Jordanian terror suspect Abu Qatada's appeal should be heard by the court's Grand Chamber, officials said today.

A panel of five judges will meet on Wednesday to decide whether the appeal should be heard, but they may not reach their final decision then and, even if they do, they may not announce it until later, a Council of Europe spokesman said.

Qatada's appeal against deportation prompted a row with home secretary Theresa May over whether the three-month appeal deadline from the original decision by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) on 17 January expired on the night of 16 or 17 April.

Instead, they are expected to simply announce whether or not Qatada's appeal against deportation can go ahead.

Repeated failed attempts by UK governments over the last 10 years to deport the radical cleric have cost nearly £1 million in legal fees, figures released this week showed.

Qatada, who is said to have "wide and high-level support" among extremists, was convicted in his absence in Jordan of involvement with terror attacks in 1998 and faces a retrial in his home country.

He also featured in hate sermons found on videos in the flat of one of the 11 September bombers.

This is what mokgee, would suggest to the bullying dictators of Europe. well until such time that it takes for you all to decide, you can have him and his parasitical family in your care, we are done here. Now that is what the gutless in Wetminster, should be directing at their governors within the junta of Europe, the spineless will never do that. Wetminster, the joke none govermental power of the globe, told what to do by strangers beyond their shores. Come on in all of you terrorists, play your games of threats of intention, and in the meantime we will support your families as well as your selves, in the hope you will change. The roar of laughter can be heard all around the world.....Even in Europe especially so, they can't believe how easy it is to push around the policians who represent nobody.......

In the olden days in Germany we used to have something like 'safety lock up'. It was done through a court order and meant the person would never be released, because he/she threatened the safety of the country, a town or whatever. The right to vote was also withdrawn from these people. You would only end your life in 'safety lock up' if you had shown that you could not help yourself, but would continue with wrongdoing, whether that would be child molesting and murdering, politically motivated violence etc.

Sure, it's expensive, but at least some people were taken out of circulation. Why doesn't Jordan go ahead with a retrial in absentia. He would then be labelled a criminal and Britain can deport him. The other alternative would be to not re-issue a passport, which would make deportation easier.

Not all that our forefathers did needed to be cast aside. If someone is 'notorious' , i.e. his actions are based on an unshakeable conviction and he could never be rehabilitated, lock up would be the best for society.

Surely the governments must know the general feeling of the people of this country, or are they only interested in the immigrant? makes you wonder!

Is this story still rumbling on?

Oh, of course it is.

Because NONE of our Political class had the common sense or bottle to put him on a military plane and let him go when they landed in Jordan!

I would assume that if he believed we had breached his "Human Rights" the he could easily find a Govenment willing to pay £800,000 plus from their taxpayer for laywers to fight his case against the UK?

The UK should simply enforce Our Rights and tell the ECHR to 'go hang'.. Oh they'll 'huff and puff' and no doubt fine us. \then we do what the French have been doing for years conc fines from the EU..simply ignore them and not pay them...

Nearly a million pounds and that's just court fees Add that to all the other benefits he and his family has/ do receive. Human Rights my a--e, he's a terrorist and we are paying for his lavish lifestyle and preaching hate. No wonder more and more are coming here, housed, fed, watered watered, and cocking a snoot at our legal system.Proven terrorists should serve the rest of their lives in prison.

Correct Waddytog! We've the liberal 'pc brigade' to thank for all this crap we're drowning in...The ECHR is meant to protect the rights of EU citizens not the miscreants who are abusing the system, using UK taxpayers money to boot...
If we go on this way we'll play into the hands of a resurgent Far Right!!!

BaalChaamon The problem is we have terrorists who were born here so have to imprison them here, where extremists openly preach their poison against non-muslims.
Many prisoners have converted to Islam.

Send him home in a body bag!

No that's too good for him. I want to see him extradited and know he will spend his life rotting away in prison where he won't be treated with kid gloves.
