Ricky Guest Binns

Police are investigating the "tragic" death of a Good Samaritan who was killed as he attempted to break up a late-night brawl in a takeaway shop.

Ricky Guest-Binns, 44, was knocked unconscious in the early hours of yesterday morning at the Chicken Express takeaway on Caunce Street in Blackpool.

He was taken to hospital but died from injuries police believe he sustained after trying to split up a fight which broke out between a man and a member of staff at 1am.

Lancashire Constabulary are seeking to speak with a white man between 23 and 26 years old in connection with the incident.

He is described as around 5ft 7ins and of medium build and was wearing a navy blue and white striped T-shirt, a grey hooded top and jeans.

Detective Superintendent Andy Murphy said: "This is a tragic loss of life.

"We believe the victim was a respectable man who was trying to do the right thing and as a result has been assaulted.

"We believe the answer lies in the local area, someone out there has the answer we are looking for and we would urge them to come forward and do the right thing by contacting police.

"I would also appeal directly to the people involved.

"If you were involved, or know who was, please come forward and contact police to tell us what you know."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police by calling 101 and quoting log number LC-20120505-0100 or anonymously call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Good news.

There are so many problems caused by shops opening late in the evening or takeaways in the early hours. They attract gangs of youths or drunks who eat some throw some away and spew up the rest. In the good old days you got your shopping in daylight hours and eat at home... not in the street.

It's not so much the spelling but the lack of correct punctuation and capitals at the beginning of the sentences. I suppose he's making a point by using the Caps Lock and I do agree with most of what he's saying.

He got his point across. Maybe he hasn't had the education others have...... Be kind :o)

Tuition fees? methinks the hardworking public were getting a bit fed up with paying for so called students to prolong their absence from meaningful work so they could spend most of their time studying useless subjects, getting pissed, dressing like tramps and leaving with degrees of social rubbish or worse. I worked hard, went without and paid for mine to go and they had to work for their keep.
I don't expect to pay for others who are unable to leave their beds until evening so they can roll around the streets causing mayhem.
The system in place now caters for genuine Students and closes the door to the feckless.
O.K. Mum I know your offspring are different. They are excluded but don't argue unless you can offer substantial evidence of their contribution to the economy. Please spell well or you will join the ranks of the undereducated bloggers who regularly clog this feature.

Irish Tinkers/Travellers/Gypsies - sounds like they were on the TV film set recording another episode of Big Fat Gypsy Wedding. You probably messed up the scene by mistake.

These incidents are getting more and more common.
Keep your nose out and don't rake around in the early hours.

For a while here in Australia the defence of 'I didn't know my king hit would kill him' let a lot of ratbags get away with murder.

This defence should be also removed in the UK once its promulgated that death is a likely outcome of head strikes

Life must mean life! Violent crime should bring very harsh sentencing. You decide to mug someone for a phone? Fine, here's 10 years in prison. Want to randomly attack someone in the street, punching them down for no reason? Fine, here's 12 years in prison. You killed someone? You will spend the rest of your natural life in prison! The streets will be cleaned up in no time! Yes building more prisons will cost money but the economy will benefit from having fewer criminals on the street. In a country of 60 million how can a couple of hundred thousand ruin life for the rest of us? Lobby your local MP now!

Sad someone else has died because of drunk Britain. About the hanging debate, well when we live in democracy we might have a chance to pass some worthwhile laws, unfortunately we don't. A million protest about the war in Iraq and we still go..Thousands protest about tuition fees and they still go up. Around 40% elect a government that 60% don't want and they get in. So don't expect to get a say in how this country is governed and what laws are passed, it aint going to happen..The minority in power will always decide for the majority, no matter what party they belong too. Democracy is a myth.
08:21 PM on 05/06/2012
Unfortunately you are spot on. I agree with everything you said.
08:28 PM on 05/06/2012
Bad news isn't it...But Britain is asleep and has been since the late 60's...Thanks for your comment though.

''Democracy is a myth''

I wish I could tell you that you are talking rubbish, but sadly you are right.
