John Terry 'In Danger' Of England Omission For European Championship (POLL)

The Huffington Post UK  |  By Posted: 09/05/2012 08:42 Updated: 09/05/2012 08:42

John Terry's participation for England at the European Championship is "in danger", as new manager Roy Hodgson muses over whether to select him alongside Rio Ferdinand.

Terry goes on trial on 9 July over allegations of allegedly racially abusing Rio's brother Anton in October, and The Daily Mail claim Hodgson believes it will be difficult to take the pair to Ukraine and Poland.

Aside from his trial in two months' time, the Chelsea captain has also endured arguably the worst season of his professional career on the pitch.

His form at the heart of the Blues defence suffered under Andre Villas-Boas and Chelsea have not conceded as many goals in the Premier League since the 2000/01 campaign.

In the second leg of the Champions League semi-final against Barcelona two weeks ago he was sent off for violent conduct after kneeing Alexis Sanchez in the back, ruling him out of Chelsea's Munich final a week on Saturday.

And on Tuesday night Terry endured a torrid time against Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll as Liverpool thrashed their FA Cup conquerors 4-1 at Anfield. The former England captain was culpable for at least two of the home side's goals.

There is also the 31-year-old's past transgressions to take into account. Ahead of the 2010 World Cup he was stripped of the captaincy over allegations of an affair with ex-club team-mate Wayne Bridge.

Bridge subsequently retired from international duty as Fabio Capello handed the armband over to Ferdinand. Terry was still selected for the South Africa-hosted tournament.

The 65-year-old Italian resigned from the Three Lions post on 8 February this year after the Football Association took the decision of stripping Terry of the captaincy for a second time, after the Crown Prosecution Service delayed his trial until after Euro 2012.

Chelsea made an appeal to Westminster Magistrates' Court to push the date back in order for the three-time Premier League winner to concentrate on his football.

In between him losing the captaincy twice in two years, he was reappointed leader of the national side by Capello in 2011, as Ferdinand struggled with injuries.

Since making his debut against Serbia & Montenegro in 2003, Terry has won 72 caps for England under three coaches, scoring six times. He was made captain on a full-time basis by Steve McClaren in 2006.

The 2004/05 PFA Player of the Year last played in the 1-0 friendly win over Sweden in November.

Roy Hodgson should not pick Terry or Ferdinand and the latter of the two something tell's
me.all's as it should not be!!!
There are lot's of better player's than these two.And if I am going to be honest I think John Terry
will plead guilty or be found guilty when he attend's court.
And that is why he never took the chance to get this thing over with when he had it.

I'm a Scot and even i can see that he should be left out of the team, if england are to do anything in the Euro's, the reason is that he has become such a devisive player for england, and he has been like this for years, you seen this when they were in South Africa he should of have just been put on the first plane out of South Africa as far as i was concerned, england are going to need a team that is settled and working as a team if they are going to win anything, i think Roy Hodgson will probably be the best manager england have had for years given the chance.

He's a risk and one England could do without I want to see 11 pro's out on the pitch for a change and not having to worry about players getting sent off

No one is perfect, especially most of the England squad members - nobody has really shone through this season
Why does everybody including Whyalwaysme need to kick a guy when he is down . JT has in the main been a credit to football, and a better Centre back would be hard to name
Just look at the heroics he performed both at club and international level. Virtually all Chelsea players played badly against Liverpool on Tuesday - Chelsea gave Liverpool two goals through utter bad play, and yes Terry had a stinker , but he should be in the side for the Euros and we'll pay if he's not included
Have you all got short memories - Tony Adams was actually imprisoned but was still in the England side -he was a great player just like Terry , there are many others such as Gerrard for instance who are not whiter than white. If Ferdinand was such a great guy, he should just get on with trying to win the Euros - all the issues over JT continue to be raised even before his case goes to court
Its a hard competitive world out there and England need strong uncompromising players , not lightweights , get real and give Terry a break, he should go , he must go if his court case finds against him then its time to re-consider
