A man is being questioned after a pregnant woman was stabbed to death in her home.

Saiba Khatoon, 26, who was expecting her second child, was found dead at her home in Kirkholt, Rochdale on Monday.

Officers were called to the scene in Darlington Road by paramedics who had been alerted after the woman's eight-year-old son ran to a neighbour's house to raise the alarm.

Police are still waiting to formally identify the victim and for the results of a post-mortem examination.

A 30-year-old man, arrested on suspicion of murder shortly before 5am on Tuesday, is still in police custody.

Locals have said Ms Khatoon, believed to have been a care worker, was a happy and friendly young mother.

Chief Inspector Mark Bell, of Greater Manchester Police's Rochdale division, said: "A young woman has tragically been killed and we have officers supporting her loved ones at this difficult time.

"I want to reassure the community that a team of detectives have been working tirelessly throughout the night and have acted quickly to make an arrest."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

To kill a woman with a baby in her womb, must
be one of the most despicable acts any human could
carry out, on another.

Well, how do you like me so far?

Actually, we often dehumanized entire groups of people. Men who slaughtered Indians in ways that would out of a horror novel were idolized in Cowboy Penny Magazines. Going to watch executions was common until 1922.

Unfortunately with honour crimes the aggressor will be supported and even rewarded once the sentence has been completed. The only real option is capital punishment.

He's killed 2 people and ruined a little boys life but will he go to jail until he dies? Lets wait and see.

Ken Clarke is probably right this minute trying to think up a way to keep the murderer out of jail
09:16 PM on 05/09/2012
You have me a little confused here Peter. Surly the worse crime which is committed is murder, so how would it be right to keep I presume the murderers out of jail
02:34 PM on 05/09/2012
It's a good thing that they don't have guns over there.
These people who kill their spouses, haven't they heard of divorce?? Divorce really is easier than murder.

Another great shame on society. Possibly this is a cultural difference where wrongdoing deserves death & then, as we know, there are many Brit husbands & boyfriends who murder their loved ones. Just be glad that you aren't involved with anyone who is likely to go over the top & do away with your family.

Huff you really are bad at not allowing freedom of speech. Also honesty is not your thing either. You stop an all round view of the artilce by only allowing the niceties to be printed.
03:11 PM on 05/09/2012
Its not just huff, the daily fail also likes editing bits it thinks we're too stupid to work out for ourselves
04:40 PM on 05/09/2012
dan-b, sadly you are right. Freedom of speech with them is a one way street and it doesn't go our way. Anybody that isn't English can march in the street, burn our flag and threaten to bomb us. We try to speak and it is terminated. We can be insulted, but are not allowed to retaliate. Huff is bad, but I agree some of the daily papers are just as bad.
09:25 PM on 05/09/2012
I presume you had a post/comment removed Craggy. I am on here steady asking why the huffers don’t allow free speech therefore I'm behind you all the way. I have put comment on here to that effect and I sent e-mail's direct to the huffers, and as of yet, the huffers haven't giving me a satisfactory answer. I have also asked why the put stories on here, then don't allow the huge majority us the people to comment on them. It seems the huffers is like the government they are a law on to themselves.
10:40 AM on 05/10/2012
I am sure many more experience their comments disappearing and they should make it known to Huff that they are not happy. What you say is right. Why put articles on if they are not willing to let people have their say. I have noticed they more and more put flimsy articles on that are not worth commenting on, but it is a safe option for them. It is time they grew a backbone and allowed everybody the right to have an opinion. I find it is a form of brain washing when they only show one side of the picture and people don't realise that there is plenty who think like they do. Hope people complain loud and clear to Huff. But well done you for making a stand.

Another horrific murder and the guilty person will be given a life sentence that will be for a couple of years,it is not a life sentence. If a public vote was taken to bring back the death penalty i'm sure the result would be yes.Since the abolishment of the death penalty the cime of murder has steadily increased to the epic proportion that we see today.I and many others would happily take on the job of exicutioner to rid the earth of this vile humanity, all those past and present do gooders have alot to answer for.
02:28 PM on 05/09/2012
Rubbish! The USA has the death penalty and it has NO EFFECT on murder rates. Try again
02:35 PM on 05/09/2012
I think you need to try again , The USA is made up of 50 states and they all have their own laws on people taking a life. Each state makes up its own laws on whether to take a life for a life or not. Some sates have the death penalty and some don't. How do you know if murders happen the same in states that have the death penalty and those that don't
02:39 PM on 05/09/2012
the death penalty in America is only allowed in a few states so maybe you should try again
04:22 PM on 05/09/2012
The states in the US with the death penalty have a higher rate of murder then those without - and this is based on many many articles that I've read - even those articles supporting the death penalty. Feel free to do your own research. But in the meantime could you elaborate on your statement regarding the increase of murder since the abolotion of the death penalty in this country - perhaps with some fact and figures?

sad and tragic this is what our world has come too.you canny open the papers/news/ all you see is stabbings/killings/muggings/just look at the very old women who was beaten up so brutely the other day well folks this is the ugly side of this once wonderful country.i despair it will only get worse with corruption/greed.
02:43 PM on 05/09/2012
You have hit it on the head. Too many people now have no respect for any one , too ready to maim some one, and the laws get softer and softer, because politicians and judges don't live in the same world as the victims
