Ched Evans Complains To Mother In Letter: I Have 'No Faith' In Justice System

The Huffington Post UK  |  By Posted: 13/05/2012 17:26 Updated: 13/05/2012 17:26

Ched Evans has complained that he has "no faith in the justice system" after being convicted of raping a woman in a hotel room.

The Sheffield United striker wrote in a letter to his mum that he had been left with "nothing". The player, now in Altcourse Prison in Liverpool, wrote:

"People are being nice but I don’t know whether they are being genuine, but I have nothing anyway."

“I have no faith in the justice system, I miss you lot like mad and cannot wait to see you.”

The letter was posted on a Facebook page set up by friends and family calling for his retrial.

Evans was jailed for five years in April for raping a teenager in a hotel near Rhyl, North Wales.

Seventeen people have been arrested in connection with the alleged naming of Ched Evans' 19-year old victim on Twitter.

What sort of female throws herself drunkenly at celebrity and then goes back to an hotel room with chaps like these, just what did she go there for? To watch "The Sky at Night"? I have no sympathy for this man, but question the morals of this type of female. She should also be locked up for enticement!

Why have so many comments been removed on this case. I thought the idea of comments were for people to express their opinions immaterial of whether they agree with the verdict or not.

He may well get some of his own treatment - IN A MALE PRISON. He looks like a 'pretty boy' and may well be 'enjoyed' during his stay!!

I guess he must be innocent then if he's said he has no faith in the Justice system. ! Why do family's want to print this letter online, and if they did, you'd think they'd want his grammar tidied up a bit first, I mean you can " properly " tell it's written from the heart !!
Love the way he has'nt had time to clean up his cell cos he's off to play pool !! Some of us went to work today !!

I did wonder, but then to be fair it is written in typical footballers "speak" !! I wouldn't mind betting he wrote it and she thought that if it were published it would make him look innocent, but then what sons going to say anything otherwise to his mother & family

Ahh my heart bleeds and I'm also holding the worlds smallest violin. If he didn't rape her then let him appeal and if he didn't rape her he will be found innocent with a nice wad of compensation. He doesn't have time to clean his cell but plenty of time to play pool hey! They should put these numpties in army jail. No pool tables, ps3's or pay for pointlessly filling sandbags all day long until your knuckles are raw and then polishing the brass every evening before the 10' o clock inspection. He may think he's got it hard but that's because of his previous life of roses and all things nice.

There are a number of people who are in prison who are actually innocent. There are those who have been executed for murder in the past and yet were innocent as was proved but too late.

Therefore how do you know this man isn't? Were you there? Oh yes he is a footballer earning thousands and so he will be a target for people's anger through jealousy not because they believe he is guilty.

I followed this case from the beginning and there was something very iffy about the whole thing. If he is innocent and I say if, then the justice system has once again failed.

I hope he appeals and this time perhaps with a less biased judge.

I will now go and put on my tin hat!

I wonder how many of the people commenting on here actually bothered to read the transcripts. This was a travesty of a court case - Ridiculously flawed! I do not know whthere the girl consented or not BUT I do know the case was NOT tried with an unbiased view! It was also very apparent that the 2 men involved were both looked upon differently (for whatever purpose). Im afraid this case made a mockery of the system & also sadly has made a laughing stock of a possible victim. The prosecutions arguments were flawed & the recollections of events skcetchy. Terrible way for 1 person to lose everything & & yet 1 other (who behaved in exactly the same way) to not get found guilty. Also disgusting that a young girl (like so many every weekend in this god-forsaken country) was so drunk she supposedly had no idea what she was doing.... Anyone who has a problem with that should take a walk down any high street at about half 1 on a saturday morning! By this courts standards hundreds of thousands of people would be getting "raped" - BUT i doubt if any of that would get to court or get any media coverage! & there-in lies the issue - MEDIA... MONEY.... SAD...

Were you there at the court case????? The British justice system is the fairest and finest in the world, don't knock it....He's GUILTY,remember 12 members of the jury sat through ALL of the evidence and found that overwhelming.Let him now serve his sentence and think/dream/sweat at what he did...ie RAPE...........

If Ched Evans commited rape (She couldnt give consent as she was too drunk) How could she have given consent for the other "gentleman" (Who actually had sex with her first - therefore when she wouldve had a higher blood alcohol ratio).. As I stated - I DONT KNOW what the truth is. BUT what I do know is - The argument is flawed as is the whole "too drunk to consent to sex" if its used in this way.... And let me be very clear! The british justice system is as fair as you can afford it to be! ie; the more money you have or are likely to have at the end of a case deems how FAIR the system is!!!!!!

kfastlove. You summed it up in your first sentence when you said "I do not know whether the girl consented or not"....................Well a Court and the Jury obviously decidee she didn't !!

Ched Evans ,If you can't do the time don't do the crime,A Nonce is a Nonce,Pretty Boy..
05:11 PM on 05/14/2012
Yep and everyone who wants to have sex should make sure that the other participant gives written consent and takes a blood alcohol test prior to commencement. If every young person in the UK who regretted a drunken friday or saturday escapade pressed charges for rape the following morning there wouldn't be enough prison spaces in the whole of europe to accomodate all of the (unintentional) Nonces.

There is a difference between having sex and forcing someone to do it, remember he got his friends there too, how many people rational or otherwise do this, he is guilty. Obviously he doesnt like it, but then again he had his night of fun, its a hell of a pay day.......

About 94% of those who say they've been raped the following morning but can't remember don't get a conviction, this girl did, so ask yourself, Isn't it likely that this case was slightly different than the simple accusation you've stated ? Like there were others there who witnessed it and gave statements for a start !

He's been tried and found guilty - thank god! Nobody should get away with rape whether it be drink fuelled or not, rape is rape, if a woman (or a man) says no it means NO!!!
04:52 PM on 05/14/2012
Apologies if I'm wrong but wasn't the issue in this case that the woman didn't say NO but Evans was convicted because the jury accepted the prosecution's case was that she was too drunk to consent.

Thats right and it doesnt matter how drunk they are, no means NO
04:22 PM on 05/14/2012
An insult to all the victims of REAL rape where the offenders got off or got less. By real rape I mean dark alley, domestic violence, child abuse etc, not just being too drunk to remember if you consented or not.

Couldn't agree more. She was too drunk to know what she said, yes or no. Personal responsibility has to come into this somewhere.

Why do these overpaid, oversexed footballers put themselves in such compromising positions ?
They receive huge amounts of money(note that I have said "received" not "earned"),and blow it away on all-night sessions at night clubs etc,who are only too willing to relieve them of their ill gotten gains. It would be far more appropriate for them to spend a bit of it on lessons in manners, etiquette and common sense. I feel really sorry for this lad, because there are so many young lasses out there trying to trap the vulnerable high paid footballers but they only have themselves to blame .

At least Rooney had the sense to pay for it ! He may have taken some flak in the papers, but that's better than flak in the showers of "c wing"
