Boris Johnson, mayor, columnist, and dancer? On Thursday the mayor joined Arlene Phillips at St Pancras International Station to help launch Big Dance 2012.

The event runs from 7 - 15 July and is, apparently, the largest celebration of dance in the country, involving millions of people across the nation in mass participation events in streets, squares, schools, beaches, underwater and on rooftops.

Some of the country's top choreographers have been working in communities with styles ranging from hip hop to clog dancing and from Bollywood to tea dances. It will include a free performance by more than 1,000 people in Trafalgar Square on July 14, created by choreographer Wayne McGregor.

While Boris posed with dancers and joined Philips in some more traditional moves, unfortunately he refrained from flipping onto his head and joining the younger performers in some breakdancing.

With his famous mop of hair HuffPost suspects Boris could spin himself up to quite a good speed.
