Asteroid DA14 Radar Images: Nasa Shows Clearest Picture Yet Of Near-Miss

WATCH: Radar Shows Clearest View Yet Of Near-Miss Asteroid

Nasa has released a video of the asteroid DA14 which came within 17,200 miles of Earth last week.

The Olympic swimming pool-sized rock had enough destructive power to level a city had it hit the planet.

Its arrival was preceded by an unrelated meteorite impact in Russia which injured hundreds of people.

And as the Nasa radar video clip shows, DA14 was primed to do even more damage had it hit.

Luckily there was never a danger of that happening, even though the asteroid came within the orbit of many communications satellites.

DA14 was discovered in 2012 at the La Sagra Observatory in Spain. Its path was tracked as it approached the Earth, in case a fleet of satellites had to be moved to avoid it.
