Schoolgirl Dies On Skiing Trip To Italy

Tributes have been paid to a schoolgirl who has died on a skiing trip to Italy.

Poonam Bhattal died in a "tragic accident", her school said.

The 13-year-old was a pupil at Guru Nanak Sikh Academy in Hayes, west London.

In a statement, the school said the vice-principal leading the trip had "vast experience" and was "obsessive about safety and security on these trips."

The school said it would be inappropriate to comment on the circumstances surrounding Poonam's death.

It added: "The leader of this trip and everyone associated with it is devastated by the death of an absolutely lovely student.

"Our thoughts are with the family and all others in the community affected by this tragedy."

Italian authorities are investigating.

It comes after another British schoolgirl, Jemima Prees, died in a skiing accident in the Austrian Alps.

A funeral service was held for the 10-year-old on Friday, where her family said she "lived every day as if it might be her last".
