The Queen has said the Duke of Edinburgh is "not ill" despite her husband undergoing exploratory surgery on his abdomen today.

Details about the Duke's condition or the original symptoms that prompted the exploratory operation on his abdomen have not been released by Buckingham Palace.
But when the Queen was asked how her husband was by Radio 4 Today presenter John Humphrys she replied: "I don't know."
The broadcaster added that the Duke looked well during his appearance at yesterday's Buckingham Palace garden party, and the monarch stated: "That's because he's not ill".
