Newport Shooting: Man And Woman 'Seriously Injured'

A man and woman are in a serious condition in hospital after a shooting in a Welsh city, police have said.

Armed officers found them after being called to Willenhall Street in Newport at 8.45 on Thursday morning, Gwent Police said.

They have both been taken to the city's Royal Gwent Hospital.

A police spokesman said officers were called to the scene after reports of gunshots being fired.

"Armed Police attended and found a male and female injured," he said.

"Both have been taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital with serious injuries.

"It is not believed anyone else is involved in the incident and both of those involved were known to each other. Officers have recovered a firearm from the scene."

He said that family members were being located and that the road remains cordoned off.
