Wayne Rooney uploaded the images of his injury to his Facebook page.

Rooney uploaded the graphic images to his official Facebook page to reiterate his commitment to England saying "Some people seem to be questioning my commitment to the England squad and the fact I had to pull out of the 2 games."

He went on "There's nothing I would like more than to be helping the lads in the qualifiers. I'm sure people will see from these images the reason why I won't be able to play."

On me head: Rooney's large cut has caused much speculation

The injury, which was picked up in training during an unfortunate incident with Phil Jones and it has kept the Manchester United striker out of England's clashes with Moldova and Ukraine.

Rooney was pictured yesterday alongside wife Coleen as he signed autographs for fans at at Apple Jacks Adventure Park in Warrington after missing England training.

But he did manage to show the pictures to his England team-mate Theo Walcott, who said “I have seen a picture and it is a very, very big gash. It’s not nice to see.

Walcott added "It’s like something out of a horror film. Wayne is an absolutely fantastic talent and it is sad to see, but it is an opportunity for someone to come in and take their chance.”
