As the year draws to an end, Getty Images, the world-renowned news and sports photographic agency, have showcased their best pictures from 2013.
Each year Getty Images curates the defining images and videos of the past 12 months that encapsulate the year. This year its award-winning photographers have covered more than 16,000 news events, 28,000 sports events and 50,000 entertainment events.
The agency’s 24/7 global operation enables them to deliver – often in a matter of seconds – current events to thousands of news organisations and other media publishers in over 200 countries around the world.
Getty assigned photographers to cover nearly every major event around the world, from the Boston marathon bombings, to Typhoon Haiyman and Margaret Thatcher's funeral.
This year also saw The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge introduce Prince George to the world's media, Jennifer Lawrence tripped up on stage to collect her Oscar and they even had a photographer in Rome as a lightning struck St Peter's dome at the Vatican as Pope Benedict XVI announced his resignation.
