Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been appointed the new Cardiff City manager and is looking forward to a "fantastic challenge"
The former Manchester United striker has signed a rolling contract and will begin his first managerial stint in English football with an FA Cup third-round tie at Newcastle on Saturday.
"I have seen the passion and this is a club going forward," Solskjaer said at his unveiling.
Solskjaer, 40, spent three seasons at Norwegian club Molde, who he guided to two consecutive Tippeligaen titles before a sixth-place finish last year.
He sat beside beleaguered Cardiff owner Vincent Tan in the directors' box for the Bluebirds' late defeat at Arsenal on Saturday, and his first Premier League match in charge will be for the visit of West Ham on 11 January.
Although his former manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, has preached the importance of coaches picking an owner over a club, Solskjaer revealed he was given "good advice" by the Scot.
"I had good contact with the gaffer (Ferguson)," Solskjaer added. "He has wished me the best, given me good advice. I had a good conversation." Asked if Ferguson had implored him to reject Cardiff, Solskjaer added it was "nonsense".
"I want to create a culture. Communication between me and [chairman] Mehmet Dalman, me and the owner, is crucial. It's a fantastic challenge for me. Cardiff are ready to take the next step up, I hope I can help them.

"I've always dreamt of being a manager in the Premier League and I'm delighted to get the opportunity. I'm really looking forward to the challenge ahead. I'm going to bring my energy and enthusiasm to the club."
Solskjaer will return to Manchester later this month to face City and United, where he spent 11 years of his career.
The striker won six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, an Intercontinental Cup and scored United's winner in the 1999 Champions League final.
"We've got some of the toughest trips in world football coming up this month," Solskjaer acknowledged. "They're games we'll relish and look forward to."
Dalman added: "There was only one name in my head from the very beginning. We're delighted to welcome Ole."
