In the latest battle to own the internet, dog owners have stepped things up a notch.

Meeting the tide of cat videos, cat photos and cat merchandise, they give you an Instagram trend to rival the likes of Lil' Bub, Grumpy Cat and Pudge: Mutt Muggin'.

The idea is simple:

1. Get your dog to pose sit still

2. Hold a mug between your mutt and the camera, taking care to position said mug so that it looks like your pooch is sat in it.
