Looking not unlike a smiley face, this upside rainbow made a rare appearance in the skies above Market Deeping, in Lincolnshire on Wednesday.
Known as a circumzenithal arc, the phenomena is similar in appearance to rainbows, but different in its formation.
The Met Office explains: “These are not rainbows but are examples of halos, formed by ice crystals high in the atmosphere.”

The inverted rainbow can only form when the sun is at an altitude lower than 32.2 degrees.
Mim Slater took the picture, describing the sight as “absolutely fantastic”.
