How To Make Guacamole: Quick And Easy Recipe For Making The Popular Mexican Dip

How To Make Guacamole Like A Boss

It might sound like a ball-ache to make, but guacamole is actually super simple to whip up from scratch. And fellow foodies will back us up on this.

Of course, it goes without saying that avocados are pretty essential for creating the popular dip.

Ann Taylor Pittman from Cooking Light says it's important to source perfectly ripe avocados if you want your bowl of guac to taste like a dream.

To make it, you will need: one avocado (according to Pittman, one avocado = one cup of guacamole), a lime, a small bowl of chopped coriander and salt.

Optional ingredients include garlic, onion, Jalapeño peppers and tomatoes.

How to make guacamole

:: Start by chopping the avocado in half (remove the pip by following Pittman's instructions in the video) and scoop out the creamy centre.

:: Mash the flesh in a bowl, but make sure you don't mush it up too much. (Leave some chunks in there, as they're the best bit!)

:: Add a teaspoon and a half of lime juice to the mashed avocado.

:: Then add a handful of finely chopped, fresh coriander and a sprinkling of salt. Mix it all together.

:: Now for Pittman's secret ingredient! Using a super fine grater, grate some garlic into the mixture.

:: For extra flavour, she suggests chopping a red onion into small chunks and mixing it in. To make the onion's flavour more mellow, rinse it beforehand in cold water.

:: For those who love spice, add some chopped jalapeños or Sriracha.

:: And for those who want to add a bit of colour, diced tomato makes for an excellent addition.

Now, next time you consider stocking up on the Sainsbury's basic guacamole, you can resist temptation and make your own instead!
