San Francisco Couple Claim Their Airbnb Flat Was Rented Without Permission

This Housesitter 'Rented Someone Else's Flat On Airbnb' Without Telling Them

A couple from San Francisco who trusted their apartment to a housesitter received a rather unpleasant surprise after a friend emailed them to say the flat was listed on Airbnb.

John and Ed who were on their way to the Burning Man festival claim the sitter had made $2,000 (£1280) after secretly renting their flat without permission.

According to the Guardian, both John and Ed met their sitter through Trustedhousitters.com

"We met him in May this year,” said Ed told the Guardian.

“We used him twice before, but met him in person for the first visit and then got a police check and followed up his references. He seemed a nice enough guy.”

A spokesperson for trustedhousesitters.com said the scenario was harder to investigate as the couple had not made their agreements with the housesitter through the site's messaging tool.

Airbnb said the listing as well as the housesitter's profile was taken down but Ed claims the response was lackadaisical .
