One group who will be happy that taxpayers money will now pay for developers to build houses are those who run the companies themselves.

Coincidentally, some of those companies, and the people that run them, have been rather generous donors to the Conservative Party over the years.

According to the Electoral Commission website, since 2001 at least £4million has flowed in the Tory coffers from businesses such as Wates Group, Aggregate Industries and IM Properties.

Here are some of the donors to the Tory party from the construction and real estate sectors.

Wates Group, one of the largest UK building & construction companies. Since 2001, it has donated £350,000 - £225,000 since November 2010.

Leonard J Nike, of Nike Construction Ltd and Key Properties. He has donated £298,422.49 since 2002, although just £3,587.50 has come since 2010.

Michael Slade has handed over donations worth £536,453.90 since 2001, with £22,500 coming from his property company Helical Bar.

Terence Cole, a property developer, gave donations worth £315,232.21 between 2008 and 2012.

Aggregate Industries UK Ltd – donated £150,000 between 2008 and 2011.

Kelt Bray Group Holdings – donated £73,500 to central Tory party from 2008 to 2015, and also £60,000 to North Somerset MP Liam Fox.

Robert Kirkland, of Bowmer & Kirkland Ltd - £39,500 between 2010 and 2015.

IM Properties handed donations worth £536,591.25 between 2009 and 2013 - £250,000 was cash, £286,591.25 was non-cash.

CC Property company - £585,576.51 (of which £5,000 was classed as a visit).

Realreed - £140,177.01 of which £135,977.01 non-cash.

Delancey Real Estate Asset Management Ltd – the firm handed over £175,000.00 between 2011 and 2015.

Tamares Real Estate Investments have given a total of £250,905 to the Tories, £15,000 of which was for David Cameron’s leadership election campaign in 2005.

Select Property Group - £55,250.00 in 2015.

Copland Group - £77,800.00 (1,300 was a non cash gift) from 2011 to 2015.

IM GROUP LTD - £260,000 handed over this year.

Angloscottish Properties - £83,500.00 donated to the Tories between 2002 and 2015.

TOTAL: £3,987,408.11
