Comic About Old Dog Saying Goodbye To Its Owner Will Break Your Heart A Thousand Times

I'm not crying. You're crying.

A comic about a dog’s final moments before it is put down is bringing the internet to an emotional standstill.

The strip, from artist Mark Glavin at Übertool, depicts an old dog’s thoughts and feelings towards its owner in the run up to it being put to sleep - and it’s devastating.

The dog is thankful to its owner for all of the fun years they spent together, but then it takes a turn for the worse. “Now I’m old. I’m tired. And I hurt. It’s time,” it reads.

(You know what’s coming next.)

Unsurprisingly, the comic, which was originally published in 2014, has ruined plenty of people.

The latest victim being Holly...

Speaking to Buzzfeed, the illustrator behind the comic said it was inspired by a Reddit comment a few years ago.

“The person was writing about a note they had received from a veterinarian’s office after they had to put their dog down. The note basically said, ‘Don’t ever forget you were responsible for giving your dog a great life’,” he recalled.

“The post was very emotional and really stuck with me. I thought, ‘What if the dog told them the same thing?’ I think dogs always put others first and if they could, they would console the person, even if they knew they were going to die.”

And hence forth, the saddest comic on earth was born.
