New Year is a great time to celebrate the successes of the last year while making a plan for a new one. It is the perfect time to create resolutions to ensure you have a happy and healthy love life in 2015. As Benjamin Franklin said, "If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail!"
If you are single, ask yourself the following questions:
1. Are you in the right place emotionally?
2. Have you made peace with all past exes?
3. Do you feel happy with your life, with yourself and where you're headed?
4. Are there any major challenges holding you back from finding a relationship and if so how can you overcome them? If you don't feel you can overcome them on your own why not go talk to someone?
Just as we get a personal trainer when we want to be fitter, it can be helpful to see a relationship coach to ensure you're in the right place to attract a great relationship or improve one you're already in.
If one of your New Year resolutions is to meet someone then think about setting some goals or create a list of places you would like to go and activities you would like to do. This should help relieve any pressure you might feel to get into a relationship straight away. Think about the types of places you want to go and whether the kind of people you want to date will be there. Perhaps you would like to try to use a dating website or app if you're struggling to meet new people on your own.
If you're in a relationship, the start of a New Year is a great time to create a vision of your future together. Firstly, focus on the positives in your relationship - write down what you loved about your relationship this year and what you want to repeat e.g. setting aside one night a week as date night. Then think about where you can improve and whether there were things you really disliked and want to change.
Create realistic relationship goals for the future based on what you learnt from the previous year. E.g. to be more patient with your partner or find time to take a special trip together. For each one, write down the benefit of achieving it and how it will affect your life. Be sure to answer the question; how can I make sure I achieve my goals?
Take action! Start moving towards your goals, what small change can make today that will move you towards your longer term goals? E.g. create a bucket list with your partner of places or things you would like to do and see. If there is anything you could book in advance then do, so you don't let it fall to the side later in the year.
On the first of each month review your progress, what do you need to do in the next month to move closer to your goals? When you focus like this you'll find you achieve things more quickly than before. If so set another goal that excites you.
Finally, don't sweat the small stuff with your partner, focus on their good points, rather than every little mistake they make. Have a wonderful New Year's and a happy, successful and love filled 2015!
