A former FBI agent has broken down in tears during a live interview after Wednesday’s horrific Florida school shooting.

Phil Mudd, who now works as a counter terror analyst for American network CNN, was overcome with emotion as details of the shooting emerged.

Mudd attempted to provide an analysis of the situation, but was left with no option but to tell TV host Wolf Blitzer he couldn’t continue.

“I have ten nieces and nephews, we’re talking about bump stocks,” Mudd said.

“A child of God is dead, we cannot accept this... I can’t do it, Wolf, I’m sorry, I can’t do it,” he added.

Wednesday’s attack marks the country’s 18th school shooting of 2018, just 45 days into the year.

At least 17 people are dead and 15 others injured after the shooting, allegedly carried out by an ex-pupil who had previously been expelled.

The suspect, identified by police as ex-pupil Nikolas Cruz, is in custody following the attack at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, located just north of Fort Lauderdale.
