ITV’s daytime schedule could see a major overhaul in the coming months, as bosses seek to replace The Jeremy Kyle Show.
The 9.25am to 10.30am slot is currently vacant after the series was axed earlier this year following the death of participant, Steve Dymond, after he failed a lie detector test on the show.
One option ITV is currently considering would see This Morning extended in order to fill the gap in the schedule.
In a proposal submitted to a focus group and seen by The Mirror, the day’s programming would begin at 6am with half an hour of news, before Good Morning Britain would then start at 6.30am – meaning an extra 30 minutes in bed for presenters Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid.
Lorraine Kelly would then take over at 9am with her self-titled show – again, half an hour later than she currently starts – before handing over to Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby at 10am.
This Morning would then run for two-and-a-half hours, with plans stating that the “earlier helping” of the show would incorporate “funny viewers’ letters and emails”.
The proposal said: “From crying with laughter at naughty pictures innocent kids have drawn to recalling personal funny and relatable anecdotes.
“Nothing is off limits as they talk about the stories and pictures of the day that have grabbed their attention.
“The show would have more interaction between the end of each show and a smoother handover between presenters into the next show.
“Eg. Lorraine may chat with Phil and Holly to hand over each day.”
However, ITV has confirmed to HuffPost that they are still considering various options and are looking at different ideas.
It is understood production companies were asked to pitch show ideas for the vacant slot, which has been temporarily filled by episodes of Judge Rinder.
Earlier this week, the show’s star Robert Rinder spoke out about the “hypocrisy” levelled at The Jeremy Kyle Show in the wake of its cancellation, blasting critics who suggested guests were a “feral underclass”.
