‘Strictly Come Dancing’ fans will know all about the so-called “curse”, when a participating celebrity ends a (usually long-term) relationship while on - or shortly after leaving - the show.

Now, former pro Flavia Cacace - who has had her own dealings with The Curse (we’ll get to those later) - has given her verdict on why it strikes so often.

Speaking to the Telegraph, she explains: “I think it sends the celebrities mad.

“Some people can’t handle all that physical closeness. They fall in love with this dream, this fantasy.

“Our job is to make them feel the centre of attention. It’s very addictive and it goes to some people’s heads.”

Flavia previously left her long-term boyfriend, fellow dancer Vincent Simone, for Matt di Angelo, shortly after lifting the Glitterball trophy with the soap star in 2007.

After their split, she began dating Jimi Mistry, who she was paired with on ‘Strictly’ in 2010, and the pair are still together.

Addressing the beginning of her flirtations with Matt, she says: “It all happened in the most atrocious way.

“My relationship with Matt was really hyped up, which was very painful for Vincent.

“But, you have to understand, everything in my life had been about dance. I’d lived in a bubble.”

The current series of ‘Strictly’ is barely underway, but there’s already been talk of possible romances.

Giovanni Pernice’s ex-girlfriend Georgia May Foote was forced to deny reports that she was worried about him being paired up with Laura Whitmore.
