The Knox Verdict has Revealed More about Western European Prejudices Than any Sort of Justice

Posted: 10/10/11 17:30 BST

The verdict on Amanda Knox's appeal draw a close to the four-year-long saga of "Foxy Knoxy" but has showed more prejudices against south European states. Since the verdict was quashed on lack of evidence the western media has drawn out its knives and taken to not only the Italian justice system but the police force and marked them out as incompetent and dodgy.

Amanda Knox has been portrayed by western media as a sex-crazed, man-eating psychopath. One commentator from the Telegraph has suggested that 'Meredith Kercher has become a footnote in the life of Amanda Knox', which to some extent is true. However this is only true because of the media circus created around a young American woman who is sexually liberated and has had this liberation depicted as a psychological problem which would make her murdering her flatmate all of a sudden very plausible. This depiction of a femme fatal that has been hanging over Knox for four years is nothing new. Stockport's murdering nurse or 'Saline-serial-killer', Rebecca Leighton, was often referred to with pictures of her on a night out alluding to her promiscuity.

The other issue of why "Foxy Knoxy" should still be behind bars according to many of the western media is a biased against the southern European states being incompetent to carry out any form of justice. The issue at the trial a 'lack of condemning evidence' and it was soon pointed out that the police had spoiled it with a clumsy approach on the first instance with the scene. This is not the first time that the incompetence of a police force has been blamed for a miscarriage of justice on behalf of a British national abroad. Back in 2007, after the disappearance of Madeleine McCann in Portugal, the media's frenzy after years without any leads led to it being the Portuguese polices' fault.

The lack of faith in those southern state police forces comes from an obsession with the lazy and corrupt view of the systems in place in the backwards south. With Berlusconi being a corrupt pantomime villain in the structured states of northern and central Europe it can only seem obvious that the other powers in Italy are also up to misdemeanors and dodgy dealings.

I find it amazing how when this trial was going on all the FOA crawled out of the woodwork and condemned Italy non stop. Incompetent, key stone cops, third world country, railroaded, never buying Italian products, never going to visit Italy. These are just a few of the comments posted many were much worse. Now all of a sudden Italy is very competent gets everything right safe place to visit etc. Good thing the rest of Europe recognizes the truth of what happened here. The Americans are the only ones who don't seem to mind having murderers walk unless the murder takes place in their own back yard.

It is time and past time for the Kerchers to quit participating in this frame, to apologize to Knox and Sollecito and their families, and to ask their forgiveness for what they've put the two innocent people through.

Your comment is unbelievably insensitive. Their daughter is dead. Please have the courtesy to remember that before you would sprout any more rubbish, thank you.

Lots of people's daughters are dead. That DOES NOT entitle them to persecute innocent people. If they have any actual EVIDENCE that could suggest that Knox and/or Sollecito are indeed guilty, then they ought to bring it up promptly - before the Italian Supreme Court rules on the appeal.

The fact is that the entire case would have never even made it into court in either the U.K. or the U.S., or in any other sovereign state that bases it's legal system on English Common Law. To ally themselves with an insane prosecutor who believes in psychics and whose mind is inhabited by murderous rogue Masons and Satanic theories and continue to cast aspersions on two innocent people who they have already conspired to deny four years of their freedom is much worse than insensitive, it is purely evil. Please have the courtesy to remember that before you would sprout any more rubbish, thank you.

If the Kerchers did not want to be criticized preventing innocent people from getting a fair trial, they shouldn't have been preventing innocent people from getting a fair trial.

Disgraceful. Pray that you never have to endure the pain the Kercher family are going through made worse by disgusting cretins like you.

The case is not "simple" and the victim's family, the Kerchers, are still asking questions, as well as other victim's rights advocates:

I'm "still asking questions" myself of the Kerchers.  Why did they authorize their lawyer to oppose the the review of the DNA evidence both during the initial trial and the appeal?  If your daughter were  murdered, would you not support all efforts to determine who killed her -- and who didn't?  Would you not want all the facts on the table?

Another question of the Kerchers:  Why did they continue to support the prosecution of the accused --even after the results of the DNA experts finding revealed the accused could not be connected to the murder?

That would be because they believed it to be a stunt by the defence. The defence were asked to attend the testing of the DNA in the first instance. They chose not to to muddy the waters. In the first trial the judge refused, this allows the defense to posture and claim that the evidence is in dispute in other words they throw mud and hope some sticks. In the appeal the judge allowed the independent review the defence got lucky in that the review came back citing sloppy police work could not rule out contamination.

The DNA experts ruled that the evidence was unreliable not that the the accused could not be connected to the murder. The Kerchers unlike you or I will have far more detailed knowledge of the 10,000 pages of evidence, this to them points to Knox and Sollecito being guilty. You have to accept this (even if it is not your opinion) as they have accepted the outcome of the appeal.

Oh and what DNA/Forensic or physical evidence ties Guede to the break-in and the clean up in the bathroom?

Wendy Murphy still believes that the knife was treated with bleach. She must not have bothered to read the Conti-Vecchiotti report, which notes the presence of starch. She wrote, "Knox’s DNA was found mixed with the victim’s blood in many different locations at the murder scene where Knox had lived with Kercher for only a few weeks before the crime took place." This is nonsense; mixed DNA is a commonplace phenomenon: http://viewfromwilmington.blogspot.com/2011/09/questions-and-answers-about-mixed-dna.html

The victim had been partying with friends so she might have been tipsy and an easy target in her home. It was a holiday weekend (Italy's version of memorial day), and Rudy Guede probably figured that the college students in the cottage had left as most did. He had a history of breaking and entering, usually in possession of a large knife, as some police encounters before the murder indicate. He did use the bathroom sans flushing as his excrement was in the toilet. That might have been the time when the victim came home. The criminal then attacked and raped the victim, leaving her to bleed to death while he went dancing at a disco on the 250 euros he stole from her. Then, when the police began investigating, he left town for Germany. The prosecutor bungled the investigation and tried to make the evidence fit his satanic theories, rather than the reality of one person committing the murder. The only defendants DNA at the crime scene was Rudy Guede's. Justice has been served in that the person responsible for the murder is behind bars. Two innocent defendants were freed upon appeal, as there was no motive, history of any criminal activities, or evidence to tie them to the murder. Perugia got it right in the end, which is a credit to their country, and Seattle's sister city.

i found this translation of Raffaele statement

http://www.corriere.it/english/articoli/2007/11_Novembre/07/perudia_murder.shtml

In it he said that Amanda had told him that the toilet had been used and not flushed. Then when he went with her to the apartment to see the disturbance she said it was weird because someone had flushed the toilet.
In actual fact the toilet was still not flushed and the police were able to get dna samples from the toilet paper.
I can''t help but think that more than dope was ingested that night and that there hallucinations going on.

Meredith Kercher walked into a burglary in progress, and it escalated into sexual assault and murder. This case really is that simple, despite sanfran55's protestations. Italy needs to reform her subjudice laws, as an article in The Economist implied. However, its appeals system looks pretty robust and something of which to be proud.
10:35 PM on 10/12/2011
Christopher, I have noticed in your comments that because there is no physical or forensic evidence tying Sollecito and Knox to the murder room, you deem them to be innocent. Can you tell me then who broke in through Filomena's bedroom and who was it that washed Meredith's blood off in the bathroom?
04:21 AM on 10/13/2011
I think that it is likely that Guede entered through Filomena's bedroom, but I would not rule out his entering by jimmying the front door. I think that Guede probably washed off blood in the bathroom. He acknowledged being in the bathroom to get towels.
03:21 AM on 10/14/2011
Vinno,
Some have argued that since Guede left no biological traces of himself in the bathroom or Filomena's room, it means that he was not there. I think that If Guede washed Meredith's blood in the bathroom sink, his own DNA (from skin) would get rinsed away. I don't think he spent enough time in Filomena's room to leave much, but there are Rep. 198 and Rep. 199 to consider.

For those who think AK is innocent, take a look at this carefully-constructed timeline of her behavior, lies and deceptions BEFORE she was interrogated, 'coerced', 'sleep-deprived' or any of the usual Amanda apologists' arguments. This is the timeline for the hour before the door was broken down to reveal Meredith's body, and only the perpetrators knew what was behind the door. The obvious attempts by AK to manipulate events in order to provide an alibi are very telling.

Paste the following into Google and go to the first item in the results((may take a couple of tries)

Amanda and Raffaele told no lies whatsoever.

The ONLY time they said anything untrue is when the Italian Police were beating false statements out of them.
