We cannot stop being alive, we cannot stop noticing the harm religious extremism and hatred causes. We will point out what fundamentalists are trying to do. We will show the limits they try to impose. We will show how people give tacit let alone explicit support to those that wish atheists, apostates and blasphemers dead.
I'll tell you what I know about war in Ukraine, and life there. Some of you will scream "you are not there!" and that's right, I'm not in Ukraine but in France, and the war is not where I am but in Ukraine. However, as are all Ukrainians, I'm living this war too, even though I'm far away from it. It's like a long-distance relationship, and I know those very well.
The Holy date of 25 May, the day of presidential elections in Ukraine, the country's territory is becoming smaller and smaller. Indeed, the elections will not take place in Crimea, rightful territory of Ukraine which was proclaimed by Putin and his gangs of separatists as part of Russian territory. Even after a failed referendum, it seems like the eastern part of Ukraine is not going to participate in the vote as well, as half of the polling stations are already occupied by separatists in the Donbass region. The country is in the middle of a war with an exterior enemy but Ukrainians say that the elections have to happen anyways!
As a society, we've got our knickers in a twist about nudity. Specifically, female upper-body nudity. Where should it be allowed? On TV, but usually only after 9pm. We can't be naked in Tesco, but Adele Stephens on page three of the Sun is more than welcome. We can be topless in the bath, unless it's the big kind, in the Leisure Centre, with other people in it.
Have you ever read something you think is so outrageously wrong you have to correct it? Well, that feeling overwhelmed me when I read fellow Huffington Post UK blogger Jack Fletcher's post entitled Feminism Is For Men Too. I'm now going to spend the next few hundred words explaining and defending why not agreeing with feminism is not the same as being a misogynist.
Femen is clear and direct in it's position. Prostitution is nothing else but a domination of one gender through exploitation, force or lie. Patriarchy wants to legalise prostitution as a way to finally win the gender fight and make society accept women as sex-waitresses for the hungry clients that are men.
Today, 2 October, FEMEN writes an open letter to the Mexican president Enrique Peña Nieto for being directly responsible of the cruel dictatorship that Mexico is currently living. Disguised as a false democracy, Mexico lives oppressed, terrified and threatened, with no possibility to express freely, no political opposition and a non-existent separation of powers.
Femen is a women's movement with women's ideas, women's slogans, women's bravery, women's actions - we are not run by man... To those who spread the information that man is a founder of Femen, that he is the creator of our ideology, that he picks up girls he likes, I advise you to calm down as it's nothing else but just a lie.
Women are first and foremost human beings, and to consider them solely in relation to familial roles is deeply chauvinistic. We don't, in India or anywhere else, only exist as mothers, daughters and wives, and should not have to be considered as such to be safe in the presence of men. It's that simple.
