Saffia Walks Out Of Big Brother - But Was She Right To Leave Her Children?

Saffia Corden has left the Big Brother house just eight days into the Channel 4 show.

If you don't know which one Saffia is, she's the one who all the papers repeatedly describe as a "single mother".

She has two children aged seven and 13 months and has come in for a lot of criticism for leaving them with her mother while she went into the Big Brother House.

The 27-year-old was branded "selfish" by leading children's charity Kidscape and a group was started on the social networking site Facebook called "Get Saffia Corden Out of Big Brother."

But did she deserve all the flak hurled her way?

Michele Elliot, head of Kidscape children's charity, told The Daily Mail: "Children of Albie's age know who their parents are and are miserable when you are not there.

"It's the age when they cry when you leave them, whether it be to go to work or to pop to the shops. They are too young to understand. It's unfair to the child.

"This mother is responsible for the child and nobody leaves a child for that amount of time unless they are selfish."

What about fathers who go away for months on end so serve in the armed forces? Are they selfish too?

How about James McQuillan, who left his young child for weeks on end to take part in The Apprentice? He didn't get any stick in the media for that.

And he's now apparently writing a book about fatherhood. Can you imagine the stink the Daily Mail would kick up if Saffia announced she was writing a book about motherhood?

Yes, I know Saffia is a single mum, but it's not like she dumped the kids by the side of a motorway – she left them with her mother, who presumably they know very well.

Saffia's mother, Lindsay Corden, told The Mail: "Saffia is just trying to better herself and create a good life for the children."

Saffia, a beauty consultant, said on the show's launch night that she "hates those who try to stereotype her as a single mum" and she strives to be "just the opposite".

Well, she's going to be in for a disappointment when she sees what's been written about her while she's been away.

What do you think? Was she wrong to leave her children?
