A seven-year-old British schoolboy has been offered a trial with the European champions Barcelona after being spotted having a kick-about near their stadium.
After visiting the Nou Camp ground with his dad whilst on holiday, Kai Fifield joined in with a group of local children playing football.
After the five-a-side game Kai found out the other players were Spanish schoolboys being watched by scouts from the Barcelona youth academy. Kai so impressed the talent-spotters that they asked him to have a formal trial the next day!
His proud dad Delaney, 38, then had to re-book their return home and extend their holiday so Kai could have his trial.
He said: "We didn't know who the lads were representing but Kai managed to get a game and held his own in a good standard. The game finished and I asked the boys who they played for.I was shocked when they said 'Barcelona'. As we were going a coach came up and said the last trial of the season for the September intake was the next day and could we come. I explained we were leaving tomorrow but they were persistent. So we cancelled the flights and I took him back."
Kai, from Northampton, now has an agonising wait to find out whether he will be signed up by the youth academy.
Fingers crossed Kai - what an exciting story!
