A look from JPG's a/w 2011 couture collection. PA
DESIGNER: Jean-Paul Gaultier
THE INSPIRATION: The ballet world. The collection was full of tutu-skirted silhouettes, feathers and even a gown crafted from pointe shoe ribbons. We loved the pointe shoe stilettos - infinitely more wearable-looking than the eight-inch-high Louboutin version.
TOP LOOKS: A billowing trench coat dress, a punky, sequinned jacket-tutu combo, a velvet cape with feather embellishment and a delicate grey tulle skirt paired with a Fair Isle jumper
WHO WAS THERE: Daisy Lowe rocking a JPG cone dress with bf Matt Smith (aka Dr. Who) and Milla Jovovich (and her daughter) sat front row while models included Erin O'Connor and top French chanteuse Mylène Farmer
WHAT WE THOUGHT: Wardrobe essentials (camel coats, Fair Isle jumpers, wide-leg trousers) mixed with classic JPG fun wear (crinoline skirts, bomber jackets, conical bodices) for a collection that celebrated fun femininity (and masculinity - Gaultier sent men down the catwalk to celebrate his new men's fragrance, Kokorico, although they were also wearing sequins, heels and skirts). For evening, Gaultier's women oozed glamour in fur-festooned frocks and plumage-sprouting everything - no ugly ducklings here, just plenty of elegant swans.
