Attention, eco-fashionistas. Fair Trade fashion (with celebrity cachet) coming your way.
Emma Watson turns eco-friendly biker babe for People Tree. Andrea Carter Bowman for People Tree
The latest People Tree collection for spring/summer 2011, designed in collaboration with actress and Ivy Leaguer Emma Watson, launched a selection of preview pieces today, including jersey harem pants, blazers, draped dresses (as well as a polka dot tea dress and gingham check dress).
In the first image released from the new line (Watson's third and final collaboration for the eco-friendly label), Watson sheds any trace of goody-two-shoes Hermione Granger as she poses against a beat-up motorcycle in a black draped mini-dress and brown boots, showing off that adorable pixie crop.
"I designed the collection last year after I'd started university in the U.S," Watson explains. "Safia, People Tree's founder, and Misato, People Tree's designer, came out to work with me in Rhode Island. Together we decided on all the colours, fabrics, shapes and craft skills. Most of all, we took care to design a really wearable collection that truly celebrates the traditional skills of People Tree's Fair Trade groups around the world."
The rest of the collection for the Fair Trade brand will go on sale 28 February, and look out for Watson modeling in the accompanying mail order catalogue.
If you love sustainable fashion and florals, you're in luck: People Tree's collaboration with Laura Ashley will be available in stores and online from March.
