PRESS ASSOCIATION -- Sir Jimmy Young is to return to the Radio 2 airwaves to celebrate his 90th birthday.
The presenting legend - a host for the station for nearly three decades until he left nine years ago - will come back for an hour-long special next month.
He will look back at his career and share his memories with his former colleague Ken Bruce.
Sir Jimmy - known to his devoted fans as JY -occupied the early afternoon slot on Radio 2 since he joined the station in 1973. He interviewed each prime minister of the day during that lengthy stint, as well as many other leading world figures. The show is now presented by Jeremy Vine.
Sir Jimmy said of his return: "It's great to be making a programme for Radio 2 - especially with my mate Ken Bruce."
Bruce said: "To be reunited with Sir Jimmy is a pleasure and a privilege. He's a fantastic broadcaster with an amazing story. He's also a great friend, so much so I even bought a car from him.
"Having him back at Radio 2, if only for an hour, is a treat for us all."
Sir Jimmy - who had a successful music career before becoming established as a broadcaster - was one of the original Radio 1 DJs at the station's inception in 1967.
He moved to Radio 2 after six years, but signed off from his show in December 2002. Sir Jimmy had been off air for several months after surgery but returned for his final fortnight.
The programme Jimmy Young at 90 is to be broadcast on Radio 2 on September 20 at 10pm.
