In 2003 Channel 5 spent two thirds of their annual budget on a show called Back to Reality. I appeared in it, alongside the late Jade Goody and others. The time slot was 8pm and it bombed in the ratings. It deserved much better.
Fast forward eight years and 5 was now the obvious choice to take on the Big Brother franchise. Huge hype, big-ish stars, big pay checks, a huge promotional push, and fingers crossed the 9pm time slot works. Will the mighty Richard Desmond's empire take Big Brother back to the kind of viewing figures that will beat CSI Vegas levels of around 3.5 million or could this be another Back To Reality white elephant?
