NTC Extends Deadline For Surrender Of Sirte By One Week

A deadline for pro-Gaddafi troops to surrender the town of Sirte to Libya's interim government has been extended by one week.

Reuters quoted an unnamed National Transitional Council official as saying that the deadline had been pushed back.

The reports are unconfirmed, but if true would give troops there more time to negotiate a surrender.

The National Transitional Council had previously said that pro-Gaddafi forces had until Saturday to lay down their arms before rebel forces attacked.
