The nurse who was wrongly accused of killing several of her patients has said she is afraid to leave her house as a result of the allegations made against her.
Rebecca Leighton told ITV's This Morning programme on Tuesday that the toll taken on her by the media spotlight meant she no longer had a "normal life".
"In custody I pleaded with the police every day, just don’t stop looking, don’t stop with me, because if you do the person that has done these horrific things is still out there," she said.
Leighton had been accused contaminating saline solutions with insulin at Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport, leading to the deaths of seven patients. She was later released after police decided she was not the culprit.
"It's hard to even say about having a normal life again ... I'm living at my parents, I'm not working, I can't go out of my house without people taking pictures of me," she said.
"I find it hard to look any further into the future than right here and now. But I'd love to have my life back, exactly how it was before."
She added: "I'm a bit scared really, someone has to be with me all the time ... I've been left now to try and sort everything out myself."
