PRESS ASSOCIATION -- A couple have built a scale replica of one of the major sights on a city's skyline - out of Lego.
It took Clare Currie, 26, from Alfreton, and Luke Dolman, 28, from Derby, more than 30 hours and 1,500 Lego pieces to construct the detailed model of the University of Derby's main site on Kedleston Road from the original plans.
The couple, who have been together for seven years, are hoping the model will scoop them a prize at the Lego Fan Weekend in the toy's homeland of Denmark this weekend.
Their model, which measures 40cm sq and stands around 30cm tall, includes hundreds of glass pieces to represent the many windows of the three towers, tree pieces to represent the foliage and even includes a tiny replica of a university bus.
Clare, who works as an estates systems administrator at the university, said: "When we saw that the competition was to create a landmark out of Lego we knew that one of the defining sights on Derby's skyline is the university's three towers. As I work in estates we were able to get hold of detailed plans of the site to base our build on."
The pair will join Lego enthusiasts from around the world at the two-day event in Skaerbaek.
Luke, who works as a senior systems engineer at the university, said: "Even if we don't do well in the competition, we'll be able to pick up some more tips and ideas for future builds."
