A man has been stabbed repeatedly by two assailants in an apparently unprovoked attack, police said.
The man, 33, was walking with a friend through the east end of Glasgow when they were confronted by two men at around 10.45pm on Friday night.
The pair tried to flee but the victim fell to the ground and was set upon by the two men.
His 27-year-old companion escaped without injury, but returned later to find his injured friend and alerted the emergency services.
The injured man was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where he is being treated for his injuries.
Hospital staff said he was serious but stable.
The suspects are described as being white, around 5ft 8in to 5ft 9in, medium build and were wearing dark clothing.
The pair were approached on Braidfauld Street, Tollcross, and chased into Downfield Street.
Detective Constable James Fingland, at Shettleston Police Station, said: "This would appear to be a vicious, unprovoked attack on a man which has left him with serious injuries.
"Officers are currently examining CCTV footage and making door-to-door inquiries in the area in an attempt to establish the full circumstances of this incident."
