A staggering 1.78 million kids miss 2.7 million days of school because of NITS, claims a new survey.
And even more shocking is the figure put on treating the little blighters - £23 million is said to be spent on over-the-counter and prescription nit treatments every year.
Researchers spoke to 1,000 parents with youngsters under 16 on behalf of lice treatment NYDA, and found that a third of mums and dads keep their kids off school when they have nits, whilst parents themselves are missing a whopping 2.87 million work days as they take time off to deal with the infestations!
The survey also revealed that a third of children under 16 had an average of 3.6 infestations of nits in the last year, whilst 16% of the parents surveyed said they had caught lice from their kids.
