The average woman spends up to £500 mending a broken heart, according to a recent survey by Superdrug.
The poll, which questioned 2,000 women, found the cost of being dumped is so pricey because newly single ladies hit the shops and beauty salons in a bid to help boost their confidence and self-esteem.
With the average of £91.82 being spent on hair appointments, £39.41 on spray tans, and £48.88 on makeup products – it seems that expanding their wardrobe is a big tick to on the heartbreak ‘to-do’ list, with the average shopping spree costing £183.48.
Indulging in retail therapy and makeovers appear to be the best tonic for heartache, as half of the women surveyed admitted they completely reinvented their image with a new look and hairstyle. Three quarters admitted that although it was a costly affair, it was worth every penny.
Getting into shape was also an expensive post-relationship hobby, with the average of £80.58 spent on gym membership.
Sadly, 6% of women were so devastated by their split, they resorted to plastic surgery to change their looks, costly on average £530.
