Catwalk Review: Kenzo Spring/Summer 2012

Kenzo at Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2012

WHO? Kenzo

IN A NUTSHELL: Kenzo's newly appointed design duo Humberto Leon and Carol Lim hail from New York hipster boutique Opening Ceremony - and they brought some of their NY cool to Kenzo's Spring/Summer 2012 collection. Inspired by US artist Ellsworth Kelly who spent much much of his life in Paris (see what they did there), Lim and Leon unveiled a collection that majored of luxe sports separates engulfed in what looked like fisherman's netting.

BEG, BORROW OR STEAL: Although not for the faint of heart, we loved the net-patterned trou wide-leg ser and shirt combo (pictured above left). Green and orange shouldn't work but it just does. And one of those long visor caps wouldn't go amiss either.

VERDICT: While Antonio Marras' final collection for Kenzo was on the somber side, this debut packed a serious punch in terms of visually arresting colour and print and a genuine sense of exuberance. It even had Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" remixed in the soundtrack. Any when all's said and done, that's what Kenzo is about isn't it?
