New Tory PPSs Announced In Wake Of Euro Rebellion

The Conservative Party has revealed who will replace the two Parliamentary Private Secretaries who lost their job by rebelling on the European referendum motion on Monday.

Conor Burns is moved up from working with Hugo Swire to act as PPS to Northern Ireland secretary Owen Paterson MP. Gavin Williamson becomes Hugo Swire's PPS.

Tobias Ellwood becomes PPS to Europe Minister David Lidington.

Adam Holloway announced his resignation as David Lidington's PPS in the Commons on Monday evening. Stewart Jackson also rebelled, but didn't officially resign.

Number 10 refused to state in terms that Jackson had been sacked, only saying that any rebellion is taken as a signal of resignation by default.

81 Tory MPs rebelled against the government on Monday night on the vote to hold a referendum, but the motion was still overwhelmingly rejected after all three main parties whipped their MPs into opposing it.
