Julian Assange Rape Accusations: Timeline Of Events

Wikileaks founder Julian Assange will learn on Wednesday whether he is to be extradited to Sweden from the UK over allegations of sexual assault.

Assange denies the allegations and has claimed they are a politically motivated act. Several governments were unhappy at how Wikileaks made public previously secret information.

August 11, 2010: Julian Assange visits Stockholm as part of a speaking tour. He meets "Miss A", a member of the Christian Association of Social Democrats.

August 14: Assange and Miss A attend a seminar on “war and the role of the media” at which the Wikileaks founder is the keynote speaker. He and Miss A are said to have had sex that night.

August 17: Assange is said to have had sex with another woman, "Miss W", who he met at the August 14 seminar.

August 18: Assange, an Australian, applies for a Swedish residency permit in order to set up a base of operations for Wikileaks.

August 20: Having both had concerns about their encounter with Assange, Miss A and Miss W are said to have gone to the police.

Both women are said to claim that while their sexual encounters with Assange began as consensual, in both cases it then became non-consensual.

The police interviewer reportedly concludes that Miss W had been raped and Miss A subject to sexual molestation. An arrest warrant for Assange is issued.

August 21: The rape warrant is dismissed by the chief prosecutor. But following an appeal the warrant is reissued.

August 31: Assange is questioned by Stockholm police over the allegations. He denies the charges.

October 18: With no reason given, Assange is denied Swedish residency.

November 20: Swedish police issue an intentional arrest warrant for Assange, who by then was living in the United Kingdom.

December 8: Assange hands himself into British police in London and he appears at an extradition hearing.

December 14: Assange is bailed, then returned to jail after the Swedish prosecuter appeals, only to be bailed again on December 16.

February 24: The extradition judge rules that Assange should be extradited to Sweden.
