Kim Kardashian has finally wilted under the pressure of her rollercoaster week, pulling out of an appearance at the Melbourne races on Saturday - only hours after she said on TV she was determined to honour her commitments to all her endorsements.
Kardashian had been promised a AUS $150,000 fee for a one-hour appearance in the Swisse vitamins marquee at Oaks Day on Saturday, but yesterday issued a statement to Melbourne's Herald Sun, saying:
"I am very disappointed that I am unable to attend the Swisse marquee but I hope to come back and work with the Swisse team at another point in time.''
The day before had seen Kardashian in interview on Australian breakfast television, explaining that she "really didn't want to bail on anyone", despite her romantically challenging week.
But it seemed that, after a day of selling handbags in Sydney with her sister Khloe, it all got too much for Kim, who instead turned tail and returned to LA.
During the interview, the reality TV star also revealed that "intuition" led her to end her 72-day marriage to basketball player Kris Humphries, which had started so hopefully with a huge wedding televised for the E! network.
"I think when you know so deep in your heart that you just have to listen to your intuition, and follow your heart," she said. "There's no right or wrong thing to do."
"I think what really just, I think, upsets me most is that there has been from the start so many rumours of money and dollar signs ... and so much of it not being true," she said.
When asked if the wedding had indeed been a money-chasing scam, the star became increasingly stony-faced and replied: "I think that's all I'm really going to say about the situation right now, and just kind of focus on why we're here in Australia."
She and Khloe then adeptly steered the conversation back to their Kardashian Kollection handbags.
In a separate interview on Australia's Channel 10, Kardashian insisted she "married for love. Anyone that would get married for a TV show - it's just, you know, ridiculous", she said. "And it's just sad that I even have to defend that."
She also revealed that she has yet to decide what to do with her 20.5-carat engagement ring, or the wedding gifts.
