It took weeks for Jessica Simpson to confirm her pregnancy, despite everyone having already guessed that there was a baby on the way. However, now the secret is out, she's only too willing to talk about it - including her peculiar pregnancy cravings and continuing rumours about her marrying fiance Eric Johnson.
In an interview with Closer magazine, the 31-year-old singer said: "I feel great. No morning sickness. I am tired, but I'm making a baby in here! They always say that pregnant women glow, but we're just sweating to death! I did a pregnancy test before we went off for a weekend away with some of our friends to make sure I was in the clear to have a couple of glasses of champagne - and I wasn't!"
"I crave cantaloupe melons like mad. I can't get enough of them and have been eating whole melons in one sitting. I even sprinkle salt on them. I just crave salty and sweet."
She added: "Eric didn't know I was taking a test, so I kind of shocked him. I came in shaking, like: 'Oh my gosh! This is happening!' We both cried. We were in shock and we just sat there, like: 'OK, we're doing this.'"
The reality television star, whose first marriage to Nick Lachey was documented in their Newlyweds TV series, first confirmed her pregnancy via her website. Along with a Halloween photo of herself dressed as a chic mummy and clutching her belly, Simpson wrote, "It's True! I am going to be a mummy."
Commenting on speculation that she and Eric are planning to marry, Jessica insisted: "We're not getting married first. We were talking about a wedding and just throwing something together, but I'd rather put more time into it and be able to really enjoy the day. When you're pregnant, your hormones go crazy and I don't want to be super-stressed and end up being Bridezilla."
Asked what she's looking forward to most, Jessica said: "Dressing the baby, holding the baby. Then again, I'm loving being pregnant, so I'm in no rush. I can't wait to be a mummy. I'm beyond excited."
She added: "I eventually want to have both a boy and a girl. I want them to be close in age, but I don't know what it's going to be like after I pop the baby out. If it goes as good as it is now, it'll be in the next couple of years."
This week Simpson made it clear that one thing hasn't changed due to her condition - telling Us Weekly she refuses to give up her high heels.
"I'm probably going to deliver my baby in these [4-inch YSL heels]... I went to the doctor yesterday and he said, 'You're gonna need to get out of those heels!'
I was like, 'Excuse me! I'll be delivering in these heels!'"
This week's Closer magazine is on sale now (Tuesday).
