There may be questions over the quality of the X Factor contestants in this country, but the other side of the world, one Brit is showing them how it's done.
Reece Mastin, a teenager from Scunthorpe, has won the title of Australian X Factor, after singing Kids with Aussie icon Kylie Minogue in the final show of the contest.
The 16-year-old's performance earned him a standing ovation from the live audience, while Mastin congratulated his stage partner as "a legend in music and always will be".
Mastin moved to Adelaide from his native North Lincolnshire with his family six years ago. He called his time on the reality series "the best eight months of my whole life".
Mastin, who will be 17 tomorrow, went on: "Not a bad birthday present. It's nuts, I'm still in shock."
The star in the making cites Aerosmith's Steve Tyler as his musical hero, and is intent on an international career now he has a recording contract with Sony in his back pocket.
He said after his win: "I don't think there has been someone singing rock and roll for awhile. It is missing so hopefully I can bring it back."
Despite already enjoying the attentions of screaming girls, Mastin is intent on finishing his education alongside his burgeoning pop career. He explained: "I really want to finish year 12. I think it is important."
Frankie Cocozza, take note.
