The USP: Located on the quieter northern shore of this idyllic island, W Retreat Koh Samui offers a sumptuous resort amid a bustling action packed destination.

Book now if: If you're looking for the complete tropical holiday experience in a beautiful location, this is for you. Once you've entered the gates of paradise, why leave.

Bedding down: Rooms live up to W Hotels usual extravagant, contemporary, creative, luxurious style. All come complete with incredible entertainment systems, private pools and more space than you know what to do with.

Feed me: Located on the property are a variety of dining options to schmooze the taste buds including a contemporary Japanese restaurant. However, I couldn't help but be won over by the 24hour availability of complimentary Magnums and Hagen Das (along with other naughty treats) at the several SWEET spots scattered amongst the grounds.

Easily bored: Koh Samui is vast in comparison to its neighbours Koh Phangang and Koh Tao. It has an enormity of shops, temples and eateries to temp every hardened traveller. Water-sports are big on the agenda here and it just so happens that THE best spot for kite surfing on the whole island is right next to the W Hotels private beach. Go on I dare you.

What's the damage: With incredibly high spec rooms throughout and private pools galore you can't go wrong at any level of indulgence at this Retreat. Kuoni (01306 747008, www.kuoni.co.uk) offers 7 nights at the W Hotel Koh Samui in a jungle oasis room with breakfast, including flights with EVA Air from Heathrow and transfers in resort. Prices for 2011 from £2239 per person based on two sharing.

Point me in the right direction: W Retreat Koh Samui, 4/1 Moo 1 Tambol Maenam, Surat Thani, Koh Samui, 84330 Thailand. Phone: (66)(77) 915999 or visit Starwood Hotels.
