Doreen Roberts has been a foster mother for 47 years. In that time Doreen, 78, from Langport, Somerset, and her late husband Don have looked after more than 300 children, as well as raising their own five children.
Yesterday Doreen was whisked to Downing Street for a personal thank you from Prime Minister David Cameron for her services to fostering.
Doreen was awarded an MBE in 2006, and is currently fostering a two-year-old and awaiting a new baby. She said her work gave her "a lot of enjoyment".
Mr Cameron told her: "It's amazing what you have done, 300 children.
"I mean most of us have enough trouble with one, two or three, but 300 is amazing so thank you very much indeed."
Doreen told the PM that fostering is "hard work but you get back so much more than you put into it,'" adding "I do what I do - I don't want any recognition whatsoever for what I do."
Mrs Roberts met Mr Cameron as part of the ITV programme Text Santa which is helping UK charities to raise money.
How amazing that this lady is still fostering at 78!Well done, Doreen!
