Russell Brand has spoken of his misery at being alone on New Year's Eve whilst Katy Perry was spotted partying with a mystery man in Hollywood.
The funnyman was spotted by fans as he worked out in The Savoy hotel in London but when a fellow gym-goer wished Russell a Happy New Year, he replied: "Here's hoping it gets happier."
Speaking to the Daily Mirror, a guest said: "He wasn't up for celebrating and just ordered food to his room. The next morning he was in the gym from 11am and spent two hours there."
Across the pond in California, Katy dealt with matters very differently as she partied with a mystery man in Hollywood private members' club Soho House.
Speaking to the New York Post, a source said: "She seemed to be in a great mood, she was dancing and laughing."
British funnyman Russell, 36, cited "irreconcilable differences" for the breakdown of his marriage to the 27-year-old pop star in divorce documents filed in Los Angeles last Friday.
The pair are said to have grown apart over Russell's wish to settle down and have children. Katy refused to have children so young as she wants to focus on her career.
A source told the Daily Mirror: "Russell left his party lifestyle behind a long time ago because it nearly killed him. All he wanted to do is stay at home, do his yoga, keep his demons away and have a family with Katy.
"He wanted her to stay at home, do the whole Hollywood housewives thing. But that was never going to happen for Katy, she loves her singing career.
"He couldn't handle Katy's drinking. They didn't get on when she went out and this caused further resentment and rows."
Cheer up, Russell! Things will work out in the end.
