It was a good night for the cast and crew of Margin Call, with a double win at the Independent Spirit Awards.
A drama based in an investment bank over a 24-hour period of crisis, the film boasts an all-star cast, including Kevin Spacey, Jeremy Irons, Terence Howard, Paul Bethany, Simon Baker and Demi Moore.
The film's director and writer J D Chandor told HuffPostUK that, while the Robert Altman award was no surprise, having been announced previously in December, winning the award for Best First Feature as well had come as a complete shock.
Chandor and his crew, based in New York, were evidently intent on leaving the stress of the competition to other people, and using their time in LA to party.
"We were out last night," he revealed, "and I was just getting going, until someone pointed out it was 3.40am and we were coming here today."
The writer-director is also nominated for Best Original Screenplay in Sunday's Oscars - "so we'll just see how that pans out," he said. Before adding, "I won't win that one, but as long as we find another party, it's okay."
