Harry Redknapp, Tottenham Hotspur Manager, Admits To Uncertainty Over England Role

England And St George May Not Be For Harry

Harry Redknapp has said he is "not sure" whether he would take over the England managerial role.

The Tottenham Hotspur boss, favourite for the national post, also expressed how "difficult" it would be to make the transition from club to international management in an interview with French sports newspaper, L'Equipe.

Redknapp was in France to scout Lille's prodigious attacker Eden Hazard, and said: "I'm not sure [about England]. I have a very good job at Tottenham today and I like it. But I don't know. We will wait and see."

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is yet to offer Redknapp a new contract with his current deal due to expire in June 2013.

However, that didn't stop the 65-year-old enthusing over the day-to-day dealings of club management compared to taking charge of the national side.

"When you have a club, you are looking for a striker and you take them. When you're coach [of England], you must make do with the players you have in your country," he said.

"If you do not have a good scorer, you have none. And you almost never see the players. Two days every two months: it is very difficult."

The Football Association's four-man panel is now in the process of deciding who will succeed Fabio Capello, who resigned from the Three Lions hot seat on 8 February - the same day Redknapp was acquitted of charges for tax evasion.

Tottenham however have won just one Premier League game since that day - a 5-0 victory over Newcastle United over a month ago - and have lost their last three league matches.

Redknapp was uncharacteristically tetchy with BBC Sport's Guy Mowbray after his side's 1-0 loss to Everton on Saturday, and his candid reservations about the national job seem to chime with Spurs' slump.

On Hazard meanwhile, the ex-Portsmouth boss was again unmoved about talking about another club's player.

"Our chairman is willing to pay for an exceptional talent like Eden Hazard," Redknapp boasted.

"I have seen him several times, recently at Marseille, and I also saw him in the French cup final last year. But I know that Manchester United and Manchester City are watching him so it will be difficult to get him. But I like him a lot."
