Fernando Torres Ends 152 Day Wait For A Goal For Chelsea (GALLERY)

From Terrible To Terrific - Torres Is Back

Twenty-four games and 152 days since his last goal, Fernando Torres scored for Chelsea on Sunday.

The Spaniard struck twice in the second half against Championship side Leicester City in the Blues' 5-2 FA Cup quarter-final win.

He hadn't scored since 19 October in the 5-0 Champions League group stage rout against Belgium side Genk - a 25 hour and 41 minute fasting.

Both efforts were assisted by Portuguese midfielder Raul Meireles and came in a goal-laden second half which rounded off a great week for Roberto Di Matteo's side, having overcome Napoli in their Champions League round-of-16 tie 5-4 on aggregate.

A right-footed finish in the 67th minute ended his drought and a glancing header from a Meireles corner added gloss to his personal performance.

Torres, who cost Chelsea £50m to prise away from Liverpool in January 2011, has experienced a tough time at Stamford Bridge.

Torres celebrates his five-month wait for a goal:

He bumped up his tally to six for the season at the weekend, but is yet to score in the league since 24 September.

Last season however he took 903 minutes to break his scoring duck in Chelsea blue. It was in his 14th game against West Ham United where - via assistance from a puddle - he finally hit the back of the net for the west London side.

"Fernando Forlorn" and "Fernando Forlan" are just two nicknames he has acquired during his ineffectual period down south. The latter is in reference to Manchester United striker Diego Forlan, who, having been signed in January 2002, took eight months to score for the Reds.

And that was via the penalty spot against Maccabi Haifa in his 27th game.

The Uruguayan - named best player at the 2010 World Cup - did not score in the league until 26 October, when he nodded in an equaliser against Aston Villa.
